How to Get to the End of the World Train
How to get from Ushuaia to the End of the World Train station by taxi, car, bus or park tour, what happens after the ride, the ARS 40,000 park fee, and cruise port tips.
The End of the World Train leaves from Estación Fin del Mundo, on Ruta Nacional 3 at km 3065, 8 km west of central Ushuaia and 1 km before the national park gate. The railway runs no shuttle, so you get there by taxi, by car (parking is free) or on a park tour that includes the train. For a first visit without a car, the park tour is the easiest way to do it.
The station is close enough to reach easily and too far to walk from downtown, and it is not beside the cruise terminal either. The line runs into Tierra del Fuego National Park, so every rider needs a park ticket as well as a train ticket. Plan what happens after the ride as carefully as the trip out: the train covers only the first corner of the park, and Lapataia Bay and Lago Acigami still need a road. You can board only at Estación Fin del Mundo, not at the park station, and cars cannot drive the railway route. The railway has no ticket office in town. The drive from town takes about 20 minutes, although pickup stops, snow and ice can stretch it, so leave a margin before your departure.

By taxi, remis or Uber
A taxi is the simplest way to reach the station on your own, and the railway lists remis and Uber alongside it. The ride is short and direct, it lets you pick your own departure, and the fare splits well between two or more people. We have no reliable current fare to quote, so agree the price with the driver before setting off.
The return is the part to plan. Do not assume a taxi will be waiting when the train comes back. Arrange a pickup time with the same driver, or keep a local taxi number to call from the station. If you plan to ride one way and stay in the park, you will need a pickup at the park station or a place on a later train.
By car
A rental car gives you the most freedom, and parking at the station is free. It suits a day that combines the train with the park on your own terms:
Ushuaia → End of the World Train → Tierra del Fuego National Park → Lago Acigami → Bahía Lapataia → Ushuaia
You can stay longer at viewpoints, stop for photos and choose how much walking to do. Inside the park the speed limit is 40 km/h and there are six car parks, including at Río Pipo, Lago Acigami and Bahía Lapataia. In winter, snow tyres or chains are required.
A car makes less sense if you only want the train, dislike driving abroad, want a guide’s commentary, or are on a short cruise call.
Can you take a public bus?
Park minibuses leave from the corner of Av. Maipú and Juana Fadul, and the railway lists regular transport among the ways to reach the station. Confirm with the driver that the bus stops at the train station, and ask about the last return before you get on, because the day only works if you can get back. If you would rather not build the day around a bus timetable, a taxi or a tour is simpler.
By agency transfer
The railway itself runs no shuttle. Some Ushuaia travel agencies have sold a transfer from the port timed to the trains, but it is not a fixed public service and it is not always offered, so ask at the tourist office or an agency in town whether one is running on your date, and check its return time against your train.
On a park tour
A tour with the train solves the transport and the park in one go. It typically covers hotel pickup, the drive to the station, the train ticket, a guide, and the park stops the train never reaches, such as Bahía Lapataia, Lago Acigami and Ensenada Zaratiegui, before bringing you back to town. After the ride, the tour vehicle meets you at the park end of the line and carries on from there.

If you want the whole park, use a car or a guided tour. The train is only one part of a park day.
For families, a tour avoids arranging several taxis, coordinating the return and working out the onward park journey. A family with a rental car can do just as well, with control over stops and breaks.
Can you walk to the station?
Not in any practical sense. It is 8 km along Route 3, the weather and wind change quickly, and your train leaves at a fixed time. A taxi costs little next to the effort, so save the walking for the park trails.
How early should you leave Ushuaia?
Aim to be at the station at least 45 minutes before departure, which is when the railway’s mandatory check-in opens. Check-in closes 10 minutes before the train leaves, and after that your seats can be released to the waiting list. Add the 20-minute drive and a margin for pickups or winter roads, so on your own, leave town about an hour and a quarter before your train. On a tour, the pickup time is set around the train for you.
Book the train before you book the ride. The city tourist office notes that the morning trains are generally taken by agency groups, with extra departures added on busy days, so an independent rider may find more room on the midday or afternoon train. What happens after the train ride?
That depends on what you booked.
- A ticket on your own. Every ticket covers the full round trip, so you ride back to Estación Fin del Mundo and need your own way back to Ushuaia. You can also get off at the park end, walk the nearby trails and catch a later train back, subject to space; keep your ticket, because you need it to board again.
- A park tour with the train. Your guide meets you at Estación Parque Nacional and continues through the park.
- A car. Ride the round trip, then drive on into the park.

Does the train take you all the way through Tierra del Fuego National Park?
No. The line enters the park, but it stops well short of its main sights. You still need road transport to reach Bahía Lapataia, Lago Acigami (also called Lago Roca) and Ensenada Zaratiegui, which is why a tour or a car is more useful than a train ticket alone if you want the park as well. How to plan the easiest day
For a first visit, the smoothest day is hotel pickup in Ushuaia, the train to Estación Parque Nacional, then the park and Lapataia Bay by road, and back to town. That is exactly what the combined tours sell.
The park fee and where to buy it
The train fare does not include the national park, and park entry is required for every rider, even on a round trip where you stay on board.

Buy it online at ventaweb.apn.gob.ar, the national parks sales site that the railway itself links to. Paying at the gate is reported to work with cash or card, but buying online in advance is the safer choice, and in this park the 50% discount for a second visit within 72 hours applies only to tickets bought online. Tierra del Fuego residents should check their own rate, as published sources disagree.

What you’ll find at the station
- A café and a souvenir shop, so it is worth arriving a little early rather than rushing straight onto the train.
- Toilets at the main station and at Estación Parque Nacional. There are none on the train.
- No ATM, so bring cash or cards. The railway accepts ARS, BRL, USD and EUR in cash, plus the main cards, Mercado Pago, PayPal and PIX.
- No space on board for luggage or strollers, and no luggage storage.
- Adapted carriages for travelers with reduced mobility; let the railway know in advance.
- Only certified assistance animals are allowed.
- Simple snacks are fine on board, and mate is the only hot drink allowed.
What if the weather is bad?
Ushuaia weather changes quickly. Allow extra time on the road when there is snow, ice, strong wind or low visibility. The train runs every day of the year and cancels only in extreme weather, but the road out can still take longer than the 20 minutes it takes on a clear day.
Can you drive to the train in winter?
Driving yourself in winter is possible, with snow tyres or chains, if you are used to snow and ice. If you are not, have only one day, are traveling with children or have a fixed departure, a tour or a taxi is the better choice.
Getting there from a cruise ship
Shore excursions that combine the park and the train take about 4 to 5 hours, and the drive from town to the station takes about 20 minutes. The railway itself sells no cruise-specific departures, so most cruise passengers book a tour that meets them at the port.
